Gabatha

Gabatha

1:
GABATHA (PERSON) [Gk Gabatha (Γαβαθα)]. Var. BIGTHAN. One of the eunuchs who conspired against King Ahasuerus, according to the Greek Additions to Esther (Add A; 12:1). The name Gabatha appears in the LXX in passages where the MT has BIGTHAN (Esth 2:21; 6:2). The variants Gabbathan and Bagathan (appearing respectively in the Cambridge  and the Vulgate) are apparently due to metathesis. The JB considers the identification of Gabatha with Bigthan so normal that the name of Gabatha has been replaced.
