Baalath (bayʹuh-lath), a place name that is a feminine form of the word baal (Heb., ‘master’), the name of a Semitic deity. It is the name of a city in northern Canaan assigned to the tribe of Dan (Josh. 19:44), whose site is unknown. It is also given as one of the cities later rebuilt by Solomon (1 Kings 9:18), but it is not certain that it is the same city. The city rebuilt by Solomon may have been further south in Judah, perhaps identified with Bealoth (Josh. 15:24) or Baalath-beer (Josh. 19:8), although these identifications are also questionable.
