Rabbith

Rabbith

1:
RABBITH (PLACE) [Hebrabbı̂t (רַבִּית)]. A town belonging to the territory allotted to Issachar (Josh 19:20). In this sole reference to the name in the Bible, it is listed next to Kishion, which seems to be just S of Mt. Tabor (Kishion = M.R. 187229; Aharoni and Avi-Yonah MBA,  53). The LXX B and the Old Latin read the name as “Daberath,” which is situated next to Kishion in another list of tribal holdings that were ceded from Issachar to the Levites (i.e., the Gershomites; Josh 21:28; cf. 1 Chr 6:57 [—Eng 6:72]). Daberath is also located near Mt. Tabor, approximately 2 miles NW of Kishion (M.R. 184233; Aharoni and Avi-Yonah MBA,  53). Tribal possession of Daberath seems to have been unclear, since it is also allocated to Zebulun (Josh 19:12).
The identification of Daberath with Rabbith is geographically possible, though several critical alterations to the text would need to be accepted. The more difficult reading in this instance appears to be the MT, and an as yet unidentified site of this name in this area is not at all out of the question.

2:
RABBITH Town defining the border of Issachar (Jos 19:20) and perhaps identifiable with the Levitical town called Daberath (Jos 19:12; 21:28; 1 Chr 6:72). If so, its site is near Mt Tabor at modern Deburiyeh. See Daberath.

3:
RAB´BITH (rabʹith; “multitude”). A city in the tribe of Issachar (Josh. 19:20), supposed by Knobel to be Araboneh, NE of Arâneh, at the southern foot of Gilboa. Conder equates it with Rāba, eight miles S of Mt. Gilboa.

4:
Rabbith (Heb. rabbɩ̂ṯ)
A city in the tribal territory of Issachar (Josh. 19:20; LXX B Gk. Dabirōn). It is probably to be identified with Daberath, a levitical town (Josh. 21:28) on the border of Zebulun (19:12).
