Ubi Sunt?

UBI SUNT? (Latin, “Where are they now?”) A common theme in OE and ME poetry of an elegiac nature, teaching that earthly greatness is of little enduring value. A modern ubi sunt is James Clarence Mangan’s “Gone in the Wind.”
