Jaareshiah

Jaareshiah

1:
JAARESHIAH (PERSON) [Heb ya˓ărešyâ (יַעֲרֶשְׁיָה)]. Benjaminite family leader (1 Chr 8:27). Jaareshiah is listed with other Benjaminites as a resident of Jerusalem. This situation illustrates a certain mixing between neighboring tribes, a trend facilitated in this case by the location and status of the city of Jerusalem. Although this list of names appears to reflect a certain period, no time indicators have been included by the Chronicler. On the basis of Ar ǵarasa and Akk erēšu, the name probably means “may Yahweh plant” (Fowler TPNAH, 110).
